In this deeply moving talk, my client Lucy Kalanithi reflects on life and purpose, sharing the story of her late husband, Paul, a young neurosurgeon who turned to writing after his terminal cancer diagnosis.

dive in - us

We begin to create a connection between us that will serve as the starting point for the content of your talk, and the confidence you’ll have to deliver it. I’ll be listening for what you want to say and asking questions to help you develop your story. Together, we’ll dive into what’s possible.

throw spaghetti on the wall -  you

Inspired by Hemingway and popularized by the spectacular Annie Lamott, your shitty first draft will eventually transform into your shining masterpiece. But first, you will sit on your own and use the notes from our initial session to write your free-flow, first draft. You’ll get it all out and we’ll see what sticks.

refine and edit - us

We'll use your draft to take us to the core of what needs to be said and continue the process of throwing spaghetti on the wall. We'll begin to define the concepts that will bring meaning and resonance to your story.

refine and edit - me

I’ll take what you’ve started and what I’ve learned about you and pull them together.  We email back and forth and create a solid second draft.

listen longer  - us

We’ll sit together again and this time, start by listening to what is written. Everything that doesn’t work will take us directly to what will. The arc of your story will start to take shape.  We will start refining your key message. The gift you want the audience to remember.

refine and edit - you

You will take all that you've learned about yourself in this process and write this third draft. You will be amazed by how much you know what to do and where to take your story and message.

refine and edit - me

I’ll take what we’ve been working on and give you a break. I'll edit and take what I’ve learned about you and pull the concepts as well as the arc of the narrative together.  We email back and forth and nail down a solid third, fourth and often, fifth draft.

working out loud - us

You speak your piece. What doesn’t work, the parts that will make the energy drop in the room, will become abundantly clear. We will take it out. The higher purpose of why you are sharing this message is starting to become clear. We'll shape the masterpiece together and you'll realize you'll have something to be proud of.

practice some more - us

We’ll meet to practice, practice, practice. I'll coach you on delivery, projection, and cadence. Then, you’ll take your final piece and you will own it. You’ll say it in the car, to the dog, and before you go to bed at night. While you'll still feel nervous before the big day, you’ll know just what to do anyway. It’s already yours.

ready - you

By now, your content and confidence will be just what you need for you to own the moment. You’ve got this.

If you have a high stakes speech including TED Talk, TEDMED or TEDx, and are looking for a trusted thought partner and storytelling expert, this is the service for you. I recommend reaching out 2-4 months beforehand to start working on a speech from scratch. The amount of coaching (and therefore the estimated cost) depends on how developed your key ideas are.

Projects start at $4,000.
